Climate Change

The book What We Know About Climate Change covers the topic of global warming, and how humans help contribute to the increase of carbon gases. Kerry Emanuel, the author, predicts what is going to happen in the future, such as increase hurricanes and flooding as well as soon to be deserts. Emanuel calls for immediate action; however, even if action were taking place right now, there still would be an increase in temperature. Emanuel starts off his book with the Earth’s history :
”The timing of the ice ages, then, is the combined result of the earth’s orbit and its basic geology. But this combination does not explain the slow pace of the earth’s descent into the cold phases of the cycle or the abrupt recovery to interglacial warmth evident in the ice-core records”(Emanuel 9).
In simpler terms, the earth goes into Ice age cycles, which is something that normally takes place within a certain amount of time. I found this extremely interesting/important because just a few shifts in degrees caused the end of the last ice age, and now, just a few shifts in degrees can cause the end of the human race.
